Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman, HI (M), (Retired), was commissioned in 1980, having won the coveted Sword of Honour. The General is a graduate of Command and Staff College Camberley, UK, National Defence University, Islamabad and Royal College of Defence Studies, UK. Has held varied command and staff appointments which includes command of a Brigade and Division, both in operational areas. On being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, he was appointed Military Secretary at General Headquarters where he was responsible for Human Resource Management of Army officers’ cadre. Later, he commanded a Corps before retiring.
He remained on the faculty of all major institutions including Pakistan Military Academy, School of Infantry and Tactics and Command and Staff College. Whereas, at National Defence University, he initially officiated as a Directing Staff and later rose to become the Commandant. In recognition of his long meritorious military career, he has been awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).
On the academic side, General has a BSc (Hons) degree to his credit from Baluchistan University (War Studies) and three Master degrees: From Kings College London (International Affairs), Quaid-e-Azam University (Defence and Strategic Studies) and Baluchistan University (International Relations).
He is married, with a daughter and two sons, one of whom is a proud Nustian! Is fond of reading, hunting and is an avid sportsman.
Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman, HI (M), (Retired) assumed the responsibilities of Rector National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) in November 2016.
