Hal Smith has a diverse work experience in the field of education and youth development. Hal started their career as a Grad Student at Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1994 and continued until 2000. Hal then worked as a W.E.B. Du Bois Fellow and Assistant Professor at the College of the Holy Cross from 1999 to 2001. Hal later joined City College City University of New York as an Assistant Professor in Education Foundations from 2001 to 2003. Hal then served as a Senior Associate at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform from 2003 to 2006. Hal worked for the City of New York as the Director of Quality Assurance at DYCD from 2006 to 2008. Currently, Hal is employed at the National Urban League as the Senior Vice President of Education and Youth Development since September 2008.
Hal Smith completed their Bachelor of Business Management degree at the Fox School of Business at Temple University from 1986 to 1991. Hal then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Africana Studies at the University at Albany, SUNY from 1991 to 1992. Following this, Hal Smith attended the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where they obtained an Ed.M. degree in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from 1994 to 1995. Hal further pursued their education at the same institution, earning an Ed.D. degree in Community Education and Lifelong Learning from 1994 to 2000.
