Joy Hensold has been working in the field of chemical engineering since 2021, when they began working as a Chemical Engineer for Natural Fiber Welding. From 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Research Assistant at Harley Lab UIUC, where they constructed hydrogel microfluidic devices to create vasculature gradients and learned basic biohood use techniques. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as a Research Assistant at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), where they constructed bio-assays using mosquito larvae and natural oils to determine toxicity rates, and collected and recorded experimental data to determine an environmentally safe method of mosquito euthanasia.
Joy Hensold obtained their Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign between 2016 and 2020. During their studies, they also participated in a study abroad program at University College Dublin in 2018.
