Nick Brandon

Chief Scientific Officer at Neumora

Nick Brandon is the Chief Scientific Officer of Neumora. He is currently an adjunct professor at Tufts Medical School and is an honorary professor at the University of Glasgow. Prior to Neumora, he most recently served as senior vice president and head of biology at Jnana Therapeutics, where he built a research organization focussed on rare neurological indications and immunometabolism.

Previously, Nick spent nearly 20 years in large pharma most recently at AstraZeneca, where he held the positions of chief scientist and head of neuroscience discovery. In these roles, he was responsible for a portfolio spanning neurology and psychiatry with specific interests in ALS, tau biology, Huntington’s Disease, addiction, epilepsy, Tourette’s syndrome and autism spectrum disorders. While at AstraZeneca, Nick led multiple programs that delivered clinical assets or re-positioned assets for new indications and led a number of significant partnerships, including with Tufts University, where he founded the AstraZeneca-Tufts lab for Basic and Translational Neuroscience and the Lieber Institute for Brain Development. He also created and oversaw the AstraZeneca biotech incubator space in Boston and was an AstraZeneca-Flagship Pioneering research fellow. Previously, Nick was head of psychiatry and behavioral disorders for a period that bridged the Wyeth and Pfizer Neuroscience organizations, where his drug discovery interests were focused on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and treatment resistant depression. He began his career in industry with Merck at the Terlings Park site in the UK.

Nick is a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychophamacology (ACNP) and has published over 150 peer-reviewed publications. He holds an undergraduate degree in genetics from Pembroke College, Cambridge and a Ph.D. from University College London.
