Marshall Poe has a diverse work experience that includes being the Editor-in-Chief for the New Books Network, where they oversee a consortium of author-interview podcasts. Marshall also worked as an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa, teaching and conducting research on world history and new media applications in historical study. Before that, they were an Analyst/Editor/Writer at Atlantic Media Company. Marshall began their career as a Lecturer/Professor at Harvard University, where they focused on teaching and research.

Marshall Poe pursued their higher education starting from 1980 to 1984 at Grinnell College, where they obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian. Subsequently, they continued their academic journey from 1984 to 1991 at the University of California, Berkeley, earning their Ph.D. in History.
