Michael van Ter Sluis has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Michael started their career at Jane Addams Resource Corporation as a Volunteer in the Adult Learners Program Services, where they helped improve the math skills of clients and provided guidance for the annual fund raiser committee. Michael then worked at FM Global as a Senior Consultant Engineer, where they offered engineering solutions to reduce risks for large businesses and managed the design and installation of fire suppression and life systems. As Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships and Director of Innovation Services at New Jersey Innovation Institute, they played a key role in developing partnerships and overseeing innovation services. Michael also worked as Vice President, Senior Policy Director, Policy Director, and Research Assistant at the Council on Competitiveness, where they contributed to policy development and research. Most recently, they joined Purdue Polytechnic Institute as a Lecturer, sharing their knowledge and expertise in the field.
Michael van Ter Sluis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Illinois University from 1998 to 2001. Michael then went on to attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from 2001 to 2003, with a focus on Structural Engineering and Construction Management. Afterwards, they pursued a Master's degree in International Science and Technology Policy at The George Washington University from 2011 to 2013, where their studies encompassed Public Policy, Science & Technology Policy, Economics, and U.S. Manufacturing Strategies. In 2012, Michael also had the opportunity to study abroad at Fudan University, where they obtained a Master's degree in International Economics for a brief period.
