Robert Hughes

Robert Hughes has a diverse range of work experience, with a focus on education and public interest law. Robert started their career as a Resident in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1970. From 1984 to 1986, they served as a Law Clerk for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Mental Health Advocacy Project, providing legal assistance to the psychiatrically disabled. Robert then worked as a Law Clerk for Justice Shirley Abrahamson at the Wisconsin Supreme Court from 1989 to 1990. From 1990 to 1992, they were a Skadden Fellow at Advocates for Children of New York City, where they developed a project assisting formerly homeless students in securing educational rights.

Following this, from 1991 to 1992, Robert worked as a Deputy Director at AFC, where they assisted with fundraising and administration of a non-profit agency and represented the agency at the New York City Board of Education on issues concerning public education. From 1993 to 2000, they were an Associate, Co Counsel at Michel Rebell Associates/The Campaign for Fiscal Equity, specializing in special education, school finance, and teacher disciplinary proceedings.

Robert'smost recent role, starting in 2000, is as the President of New Visions for Public Schools. In this position, they serve as the CEO overseeing education reform and a charter management organization. Under their leadership, New Visions has created numerous small district high schools and charter schools, expanding educational opportunities in New York City.

Robert Hughes attended Dartmouth College from 1980 to 1984, where they obtained their AB with High Honors in History. Following this, they pursued further education at Stanford Law School from 1987 to 1989, completing their Doctor of Law (JD) with Honors.
