Steffi Fritsche is a Research Scientist at Scion, where responsibilities include leading projects investigating reproduction-related genes and traits in conifer species since August 2015. Steffi is the main author of a successful proposal for Scion's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and co-authored a winning application for New Zealand's "Smart Ideas" grant, securing $1 million in funding. Prior experience includes serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of British Columbia from January 2013 to July 2015, focusing on genetic improvement of poplar trees for bioenergy feedstock. Steffi earned a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Horticultural Plant Breeding from the University of Kiel (CAU) from 2008 to 2012, having conducted a project on functional characterization of tocopherol genes in rapeseed. Education also includes a Master's Degree in Plant Biotechnology from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover from 2006 to 2008.
