Andrew Smith (MIWFM) has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Andrew began their career at BNFL, where they completed a Mechanical Apprenticeship and obtained various qualifications in mechanical engineering. Andrew then worked as a Plant Fitter, responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment on a nuclear reprocessing site. Following this, Andrew worked at Hydraulic Cylinder Services as a Mechanical Fitter, repairing hydraulic equipment.
In 2007, Andrew joined Nexus, where they held various roles. Andrew started as a Skilled Maintainer (Mechanical) Leading Hand, overseeing the maintenance and repair of assets in a public transport environment. Later, they became a Section Supervisor for the Buildings and Facilities department, managing staff, budgets, and maintenance schedules. Throughout their time at Nexus, Andrew ensured a safe working environment for the staff and the public.
Most recently, Andrew served as the Head of Facilities and Health and Safety Manager at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. In this role, they developed and implemented policies and procedures, including writing a suite of health and safety policies. Andrew also oversaw essential maintenance projects.

In 2018, they attended Newcastle College where they obtained a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, emphasizing their focus in the field of Health and Safety. In the same year, they attended Gateshead College for CMI First Line Management, although the degree obtained is unspecified. Andrew also pursued a Mechanical Engineering degree from West Cumbria College between 1997 and 2000, earning an HNC qualification. Andrew further augmented their knowledge by completing a course in IOSH Managing Safely from the H&S Department in 2009.
