Whitney Ames

Whitney Ames is General Counsel for Newport. She specializes in corporate transactions and governance matters. She previously served as general counsel for several companies in the financial services industry, including GMAC Insurance (a leading property and casualty insurer in the U.S.) and Wilmington Trust Retirement and Institutional Services Company (a provider of trust and trust administration services to retirement plans, personal trusts and institutional clients and member of the M&T Bank group of companies). Prior to her work for Newport, Whitney was an associate at Gray, Cary Ware & Freidenrich LLP (n/k/a DLA Piper Rudnick) where she counseled public and private companies in various industries in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, securities law, corporate governance, executive compensation and intellectual property. Whitney holds a Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco, where she graduated cum laude, and a bachelor's degree in history, with honors, from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of the California and Washington State Bars and serves as an Adjunct Professor at New York Law School.
