Matt Buckby has held various positions in the engineering field since 2005. In 2005, they were an Electronics Engineer and Technician at Vision Security Systems, where they developed custom security and access control hardware and facilitated the integration of IP camera technologies into existing industrial CCTV and access control systems. In 2007, they became the CEO and Founder of Insight Systems, where they developed proprietary security system hardware for unique applications and provided custom CCTV solutions to commercial and industrial clients. Also in 2007, they were a Contractor for CTBTO (Nuclear Detection, Electronics Engineer) at the United Nations, where they supported engineering teams by configuring and improving radionuclide monitoring stations in the South Pacific responsible for the detection and monitoring of illegal nuclear activity, led a Silicon Valley initiative to develop field-ready liquid Nitrogen generators, and maintained complex high purity germanium detectors along with the global satellite network GCI linking global stations to the UN datacenter in Vienna. From 2011 to 2018, they were a Senior Electrical Engineer and Chief Operating Officer at MMR Technologies, Inc., where they designed and launched the world's smallest commercial liquid nitrogen generator, the elan2digital, and led full cycle R&D projects with aggressive deadlines for large scale clients such as Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC), The United Nations (UN), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the US Department of Energy (DoE). Matt then moved to FLIR Systems in 2018, where they were a Senior Electrical Engineer. In 2021, they began working at Nexa3D as the Electrical Engineering Director and Lead Electrical Engineer.

Matt Buckby completed their Bachelor of Science/Commerce from the University of Canterbury between 2001 and 2004. In 2005, they obtained their COMPTIA A+ certification from CompTIA. In 2013, they obtained their Universal Technician EPA - 40 CFR 82 Subpart F certification from San Jose City College.
