Alejandro Komai

Alejandro Komai, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience in data science and teaching. Alejandro is currently working as the Principal Data Scientist at NexGen Financial Group, a position they started in 2024. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Data Scientist at Collective Health from 2021 to 2024. Starting their career in 2015, Alejandro worked at Southern California Edison (SCE), where they held two roles as a Senior Data Scientist and a Senior Integrated Demand Analysis and Forecasting Planner. At SCE, they conducted data engineering, modeling, and risk calibration for various projects. Before that, they were a PhD Candidate at UC Irvine from 2012 to 2015, working on their independent research in monetary history and theory while also serving as a teaching assistant. Alejandro began their teaching career as a Math Teacher at Don Bosco Technical Institute in 2010. Furthermore, Alejandro served as a Teaching Assistant at UCLA from 2009 to 2011.

Alejandro Komai, Ph.D. obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics from UC Irvine in 2008. Alejandro then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Economics from UCLA, graduating in 2011. Subsequently, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics from UC Irvine in 2015. In addition to their traditional education, Alejandro has obtained various certifications, including Academy Accreditation - Fundamentals of the Databricks Lakehouse Platform from Databricks, Managing Models in SAS Viya and SAS Viya and R Integration for Machine Learning from SAS, Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) from the Scrum Alliance, Fundamentals of Deep Learning for Computer Vision from the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, Cognitir Introduction to Data Science for Finance Course Certification from Cognitir, and Basic Mediation Training from the University of California, Irvine Mediation Program & The Orange County Human Relations Commission.
