Brian Donoghue

Deputy Director at Next Century Cities

Before joining Next Century Cities, Brian Donoghue was a founding member of the Department of Innovation & Technology under Mayor Pete Buttigieg in the City of South Bend, Indiana. Beginning in 2014, Brian held operations and policy roles including Ecosystem Development Manager, Civic Innovation Director, and Interim Chief Innovation Officer. While leading South Bend’s Civic Innovation Division for the past four years, he worked closely with community partners and national funders to improve resident access to technology, digital literacy, and quality educational opportunities. As a senior advisor to Mayor James Mueller, Brian designed multiple covid-relief programs and developed American Rescue Plan spending strategies for South Bend.

Brian completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame with concentrations in Finance and Computer Applications Programming. He received an Executive Certificate in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a Certificate in International Business from Tecnológico de Monterrey. Before the public sector, Brian worked for IBM’s Software Group in New York, where he held roles ranging from acquisition finance to ecosystem development.
