Seth Statler is currently the Director of Government Affairs at NFPA. Prior to their current position, Seth served as the Associate Administrator for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at NASA from September 2009 to January 2017. In this role, they managed all relationships with the United States Senate, the House of Representatives, Governors, and other State and local officials for an independent agency with a budget of nearly $20 billion and more than 50,000 employees. Seth also developed and implemented highly successful communications strategies for NASA exploration, science, space technology, and aeronautics programs; coordinated Congressional hearings and events; led record breaking outreach efforts to all levels of elected officials; dramatically increased Congressional support for NASA; and managed a staff of 45 with a budget of $4 million.
From November 1997 to September 2009, Seth served as the Deputy Assistant Commissioner at U.S. Customs and Border Protection. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Office of Field Operations, which included managing a budget of over $6 billion and a workforce of over 20,000 employees.
Prior to their role at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Seth served as the Associate Staff for Appropriations on Congressman Steny Hoyer's team from January 1995 to November 1997. In this role, they were responsible for advising the Congressman on all matters related to the appropriations process in the House of Representatives.
Seth has also taught marketing as an adjunct assistant professor at University of Maryland Global Campus.
Seth Statler has a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Maryland - Robert H. Smith School of Business, with a focus in marketing and public relations. Seth also attended the Duke Leadership Program at Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business, and the Program for Senior Managers in Government at Harvard Kennedy School. Their undergraduate degree is in economics from Gettysburg College.
They are on a team with Chuck Stravin - VP, Business Operations, Christian Dubay - VP, Engineering & Research, and Paul Defronzo - CFO. Their manager is Jim Pauley, President.
