Jason Childs

Jason Childs is an accomplished drone pilot and media specialist with extensive experience in photography and communications. Since September 2020, Jason has served as a Drone Pilot for the Australian UAV service, overseeing the NSW Government's UAV program that enhances beach surveillance and shark behavior monitoring. Jason's longstanding affiliation with Nihi dates back to 1990, documenting the lives of the Sumbanese people. With a career as a photojournalist since April 1993, Jason has cultivated a diverse skill set and a deep passion for media. Notable past roles include Senior Staff Photographer for Surfer Magazine, where distinct cover shots from Indonesia were produced, and Press Photographer for The Age Newspaper. Education includes studies at RMIT University, a course at TAFE NSW Wollongbar, and certification from Aviassist.
