Julius Hietala

Julius Hietala has a diverse work experience. Julius is currently working as a Software Engineer at Nimble Robotics since September 2022. Before that, they co-founded hanaa.io in June 2022, where they aimed to facilitate the buying and selling of motorcycles. Julius also co-founded Stray Robots in April 2021 and served as a Co-Founder and Software Engineer, focusing on computer vision tools and services.

Prior to their entrepreneurial ventures, Julius worked as a Research Assistant at Aalto University from June 2020 to March 2022. Julius developed a system for dynamic folding of various cloths using visual feedback. Their research was published in the 2022 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2022).

Julius also has experience at Smartly.io, where they held multiple roles. From September 2018 to March 2022, they worked as a Software Engineer, contributing to the video template rendering engine and media library. Julius also led migration projects to modernize legacy code. Prior to that, they worked as a Solutions Engineer at Smartly.io from January 2017 to September 2018, assisting large advertisers in scaling their social media advertising through integration with the Smartly.io platform.

Before entering the tech industry, Julius worked as a Business Developer at Meru Health in 2016. Julius was responsible for developing business opportunities. Julius also served as Operations Manager at Maria 0-1 from May to September 2016, where they handled operational tasks.

Julius's entrepreneurial journey began when they co-founded Junction, a hackathon organizer, in January 2015. The organization grew to become one of the largest in Europe and expanded globally. Julius also served as President of Aalto Entrepreneurship Society throughout 2015.

Julius Hietala has an extensive education history. Julius completed their high school education at Montrose High School from 2009 to 2010. Afterward, they enrolled in Porkkalan Lukio, although the specific degree and field of study remain undisclosed.

Julius then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science from Aalto University, commencing in 2012 and successfully completing it in 2019. Building on their undergraduate degree, they continued their studies at Aalto University and acquired a Master's degree specializing in Machine Learning, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, which they obtained between 2018 and 2021.

Throughout their educational journey, Julius has developed a strong foundation in computer science and expanded their knowledge in cutting-edge technologies such as machine learning, data science, and artificial intelligence.
