Annika Vaksmaa

Annika Vaksmaa is a postdoctoral researcher at NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research since September 2018, with prior experience as a postdoctoral researcher at Radboud University Nijmegen from 2013 to September 2018. Annika completed a PhD focused on the role of microbial communities, particularly anaerobic methanotrophs, in Italian paddy fields utilizing various microbiological methods. Additional roles include research assistant positions at Sultan Qaboos University and Roskilde University, where microbiological testing and the effects of antifreeze proteins on sprinkler fluid were investigated, respectively. Annika also worked as a scientist at the Competence Center of Food and Fermentation Technologies and as a research intern at Philips, conducting research on bacterial metabolism. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Molecular and Environmental Biology from Roskilde University, an Erasmus program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Aarhus University, and a Bachelor of Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology from TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology.
