Ryan Corcoran has a diverse range of work experience in the field of GIS. Ryan began their career as an Intern at The Lower East Side Ecology Center, where they worked with small businesses to promote sustainability and reduce their carbon footprints.
Ryan then worked as a GIS Researcher at the College of William & Mary, where they focused on analyzing the impact of Best Management Practices on water quality in the College Creek watershed. Ryan utilized the EPA's Storm Water Management Model and found that retention ponds placed in series were most effective in improving water quality.
Following this, Ryan served as a GIS Research Assistant at the Center for African Development at William and Mary. Here, they worked on a research project investigating the geospatial relationship between areas of colonial investment and modern inequality across Africa.
Ryan later joined Arlington County as a GIS Data Management Fellow. In this role, they collaborated with various departments to produce geospatial data layers and maps that met the needs of the local jurisdiction. Ryan'stasks included creating and maintaining geospatial data related to planimetric, infrastructural, demographic, and environmental projects.
Ryan then worked at GKY as a Water Resources GIS Analyst. Ryan served as the main GIS resource for the environmental consulting firm, specializing in stormwater management. Ryan'sresponsibilities involved managing ESRI apps, directing coworkers in technical aspects of map creation and GIS database design, producing maps and graphs for project proposals, creating custom tools using Python and arcpy, and developing web apps to communicate geospatial data to clients and the public.
Most recently, Ryan joined Niyam IT as a GIS Analyst. Ryan leads a national team managing FEMA's Coordinated Needs Management Strategy geospatial database for twenty-two states and territories. This involves tracking the validity of flood hazard studies and helping decision makers understand community flood hazard risk.
Throughout their career, Ryan has demonstrated expertise in geospatial analysis, data management, remote sensing, and quality control checks. Ryan has also honed their technical skills using ArcGIS, Python, and ESRI apps.
Ryan Corcoran earned a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Geography and Government from William & Mary, where they studied from 2012 to 2016. Ryan later pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Geography at The George Washington University from 2017 to 2019.
