Maria Christou is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA) since June 2021. Prior to this role, Maria completed a PhD in Veterinary Medicine at NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences from 2017 to 2020 and served as a PhD Student at the same institution. Maria also held a Researcher position at the University of Crete from January 2015 to January 2017, focusing on the effects of toxic microalgae on zebrafish. An internship at the Hellenic Center for Marine Research in 2011 involved studying the foraging behavior of Octopus vulgaris. Academic credentials include a Master of Science in Environmental Biology and Marine Resources Management from the University of Crete and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Patras.
