Lisa M. has a diverse work experience in the field of early childhood education. Lisa began their career as a Lead Teacher at a private child care center in 1996. Lisa then worked as a Child Development Specialist at Surry County Early Childhood Partnership from 1999 to 2001. Lisa later became the Preschool Coordinator and Even Start Family Literacy Director at Stokes County Schools from 2001 to 2004. Lisa then served as the Director of Early Childhood Programs at Surry Community College from 2000 to 2012. Lisa worked as an Education Consultant and Contractor in early childhood education from 2001 to 2014. In 2012, they joined the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a Faculty Member in the Human Development and Family Studies and School of Education departments, where they worked until 2019. Most recently, Lisa has served as the Associate Vice President of Academic Programs at the North Carolina Community College System since 2014.

Lisa M. earned their Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Arts from Surry Community College in 1996. Lisa then went on to complete their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1999. Following that, they obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Liberal Studies from Wake Forest University in 2002. In 2004, Lisa M. earned their Master of Arts in Teaching and Leadership from Salem College, with a focus on Birth to Kindergarten. Lisa then pursued further education at Keiser University, where they completed their Education Specialist (EdS) degree in Educational Leadership in 2013, and their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Educational Leadership in 2014.
