April Smitley

April Smitley is a Library Assistant at the North Carolina Museum of Art. April has worked in the museum industry for over five years in a variety of capacities. Prior to their current position, they were a Gentracer at Lauth Investigations International, Inc. from October 2020 to May 2022. April was also a Library Associate at the Chula Vista Public Library from November 2019 to March 2020. In addition, they have worked as a Ticket Services Rep at The Old Globe from June 2018 to November 2019 and as a Visitor Engagement Associate at the San Diego April'story Center from February 2017 to June 2018. April has also been involved with the Balboa Park Conservancy as a Sales Associate from November 2016 to March 2017 and with The San Diego Museum of Art as a Young Art 2021 Assistant from July 2015 to May 2021. April is also a professional genealogist and researcher and has their own research business, April Smitley Research Services.

April Smitley has a certificate in diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace from the University of South Florida. April also has an associate's degree in library information technology from Cuesta College and a bachelor's degree in international security and conflict resolution, Asian studies from San Diego State University. April has a certificate in cultural competence from San Diego State University and has completed summer programs in criminal justice at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Asian studies at Dai hoc Quoc Gia Hànôi. April has also completed a winter program in human health services at PSG College of Technology and a certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Oxford Seminars.
