Wayne Barker

With 33 years of experience in public education, Wayne Barker, Ed.S., has served in a variety of capacities from teacher and coach to administrator and superintendent in school districts throughout northern and central Indiana. Barker began his career as a high school business teacher and coach at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Ind.

In June, Barker returned to his starting point only this time as superintendent for Northwest Allen County Schools. Before that he served as superintendent of Schools for School City of Mishawaka for the last three years. He served 10 years as superintendent for Bluffton-Harrison Metropolitan School District. In addition, Barker has 14 years of experience as a building administrator and six years teaching at the secondary level.

Barker obtained his Bachelor of Science in business education from Ball State University in 1989 and his Master of Science in administrative leadership from Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne in 1998. Later he completed his specialist in education degree (Ed.S.) in educational leadership, thus, acquiring his superintendent’s license in 2006.

He maintains memberships in the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, Indiana School Boards Association, American Association of School Administrators, Northern Indiana Superintendents Club, and Midwest Suburban Superintendents Association. Barker also serves on the board of directors for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and Indiana High School Athletic Association Foundation.

Barker and his wife, Vicki Barker, a retired educator, have three adult children and two grandchildren.
