Timothy H. Murphy

Timothy H. Murphy is chief administrative officer at Mastercard Inc., a publicly-traded, worldwide payments company headquartered in Purchase, New York. In this role, he oversees Mastercard’s law, franchise and integrity activities, as well as its people and capabilities function. Murphy joined Mastercard in 2000, was promoted to general counsel in 2014, and assumed his current role in 2021. He began his career with the New York law firm of Cleary, Gottleib, Steen & Hamilton. Murphy was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2020. He also serves as the chair of the board of trustees for the National Urban League and as a member of the boards for the U.S.-Russia Business Council and Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. He is a member of the Legal Services Corporation’s Leaders Council, the Economic Club of New York, and the Council on Foreign Relations. Murphy received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Amherst College and a law degree from Harvard Law School.
