George Frederick Mead Merck is an accomplished American collector and philanthropist, recognized for founding the George Merck Art Collection (GMAC) in 2013, which is renowned for its significant Light and Space collection in the southeastern United States. Currently, Merck serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Norton Museum of Art and as Chairman of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution, having taken on this leadership role in March 2022. Additional experience includes partnerships with Del Toro Shoes and The Next Step Realty, as well as contributions to charitable initiatives such as ForDarfur, which provided substantial aid to conflict-affected regions in Sudan. Merck holds a BS in Economics from Southern Methodist University (2008-2012).
