Cody J. Higginson, Ph.D. has a wealth of experience in product research and development, materials innovation, and scientific research. In 2019, they joined Novoloop as a Product and Innovation Manager, leading the materials formulation team to create high performance polymers from feedstock generated by accelerated thermal oxidative decomposition of polyethylene plastic waste. Cody J. then took on the role of Senior Scientist, Materials Innovation, where they designed, synthesized, and characterized prototype polymer materials using chemical building blocks derived from chemically recycled post-consumer polyethylene plastic. From 2016 to 2019, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, where they designed and synthesized mussel-inspired polymeric materials for applications as high-performance structural adhesives, conformal nanocoatings, tissue adhesives, and pressure sensitive adhesives. Cody J. also prepared dynamic covalent hydrogels and remoldable thermoset elastomers using thiol-X chemistry. From 2013 to 2016, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Affiliate at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they invented modular degradable hydrogels based on thiol-reactive oxanorbornadiene (OND) cleavable linkers. From 2010 to 2013, they were a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at The Scripps Research Institute, where they designed and synthesized thiol-reactive oxanorbornadiene (OND) cleavable linkers for protein bioconjugation and controlled released applications. From 2009 to 2010, they were an Undergraduate Research Assistant and Amgen Scholar at the University of California, San Diego, where they synthesized aminoglycoside-inspired streptolidine lactam derivatives for screening as potential binders of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) internal ribosome entry site.
Cody J. Higginson obtained their B.Sc. in Pharmacological Chemistry from UC San Diego in 2010 and their Ph.D. in Chemistry from Scripps Research in 2015.
