Dr John Shephard

Dr John Shephard has a diverse work experience in various healthcare organizations. Dr John currently works as the Deputy Director of Clinical Governance & Medical Services at NSW Health, where they provide strategic and professional leadership in clinical governance and medical services. Dr John is responsible for strengthening clinician involvement in decision-making and clinical practice improvement.

Dr Shephard is also the Co-Founder & Chief Medical Officer at GOPASS Global, a role they have held since 2020.

Prior to their current roles, Dr Shephard served as the Deputy Director of Medical Services at St Vincent's Health Australia and Director of Medical Services at St Joseph's Hospital. Dr John has experience in healthcare management advisory as a Principal at OneSmallStep Healthcare Consulting, where they worked on projects related to operational delivery, clinical governance, digital transformation, and medical leadership.

Dr John'sprevious positions include Group Medical Director and Group Deputy Medical Director at Aspen Medical, Senior Medical Advisor at Medibank, and Senior Medical Officer at CM Health.

Dr Shephard also worked as an Informatics Scholar at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Dr John Shephard has a diverse educational background. Dr John obtained a Bachelor of Medicine degree from the University of Newcastle in 1989. Dr John then pursued further qualifications and completed a Diploma from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London in 1993. Dr Shephard also obtained a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from James Cook University at an unspecified time. Dr John went on to become a Fellow at The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) in 2000 and an Advanced Trainee at The Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators. In addition to their formal education, Dr Shephard has recently obtained a Certificate in Executive Management and Development from UNSW in 2023.
