Roland Lopez has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Roland began their career at A Terra Nova in 1996 as a Lead Software Engineer before moving on to Computerized Facility Integration as a Lead Software Engineer, where they worked on facility management products and integration. Roland then joined Rare Medium as a Lead Software Engineer, where they worked on high-end websites and led teams through the requirements gathering and delivery process.
In 2000, they joined Veridian as a Senior Developer/Team Lead, providing services to the Air Force in the areas of intrusion detection, data security, and vulnerability analysis. Roland also took on a project recovery role and successfully delivered a project within six months, leveraging agile methodologies.
Roland then transitioned to Frost Bank as a Lead Software Engineer, where they played a key role in designing and implementing the bank's first internet banking site. Roland worked on core components, online bill pay, and application security model.
In 2001, they worked as an Independent Contractor at Nexgen Id, where they were involved in the development of a biometric access control device. Roland also contributed to web development for marketing-based websites.
Roland's next career move was to Valero Energy Corporation in 2002, where they served as an I/S Manager. Their responsibilities included implementing systems for yield accounting, scheduling, and environmental health & safety.
Since 2007, Roland has been a part of NuStar Energy L.P., initially serving as a Director of Enterprise Architecture and Cyber Security Officer. Roland played multiple roles within the company, including lead developer, architect, project manager, team manager, and director. Roland participated in the initial separation from Valero Energy and was responsible for the implementation of various systems across different departments.
Currently, Roland holds the position of Vice President of Information Systems at NuStar Energy L.P., overseeing the SAP and Microsoft Administration and development activities. Their primary responsibilities include technology strategy planning and execution over a 3 to 5-year period.
Roland Lopez obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Roland attended the university from 1992 to 1996. Prior to that, from 1985 to 1994, they served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. During their tenure in the Army, they focused on communications. In addition to their formal education, Roland also obtained the CISSP certification, becoming a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Roland received this certification from (ISC)2 in March 2014.
