Stuart Machin has extensive work experience in the retail industry. Stuart is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Marks and Spencer since May 2022. Prior to this, they held various roles in the company, including Chief Operating Officer and MD of Food, Executive Lead for Talent, and Managing Director of M&S FOOD. Stuart also served as a Non Executive Board Director at Ocado Retail Ltd.
Before joining Marks and Spencer, Stuart Machin was the Chief Executive Officer of Steinhoff UK from August 2017 to March 2018. Stuart also worked at Wesfarmers Ltd from August 2008 to April 2016, where they held the position of RETAIL Executive / CEO / COO. During their time at Wesfarmers, they successfully led the turnaround of Target Australia as the Managing Director / CEO.
Stuart Machin has also worked at Coles, where they served as the COO/ Operations and Store Development from August 2008 to July 2013. Stuart played a key role in the turnaround of Coles, transforming it into a successful AUD$39BN supermarket, liquor, and convenience business.
Stuart has held other notable positions in their career, including Operations Director at Asda from December 2005 to August 2008, Operations Director at Tesco PLC from November 2003 to December 2005, and Retail Operations Director at Sainsbury's from September 1987 to November 2003.
Additionally, they served as a Non Executive Board Director at Aboriginal Employment Strategy Ltd from 2011 to 2013.
Stuart Machin attended the Harvard Business School in 2012 for the AMP - Advanced Management Program. In 2023, they returned to Harvard Business School to complete the CEO Program, specializing in Chief Executive studies.
