Michael Burns

Michael Burns has a diverse work experience in the maritime industry. Michael currently works as a Deck Chief at Ocean Exploration Trust, where they started in October 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Vessel Captain at Northstar Marine Inc, starting in September 2022. From 2017 to 2022, they held the position of Senior Marine Technician at Amentum, where they were responsible for various tasks such as leading back deck operations on research vessels and instructing small boat operators. Before that, from 2015 to 2017, they worked as a Logistics/Research Tech at RCUH.

Michael Burns completed their education with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Small Vessel Fabrication and Repair from Honolulu Community College, spanning from 2011 to 2014. Before that, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, completing it in 2007. Additionally, they hold certifications from the U.S. Coast Guard, including the Standards of Training Certification on Watchkeeping and the USCG 100 Ton Master with Aux Sail and Tow endorsements.
