Illya Azaroff, FAIA, currently serves on the Board of Directors for The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and has been the Director of Design, Resilience, and Regenerative Strategies at +LAB Architect PLLC since 2007. As a professor at the City University of New York, Azaroff leads an advanced theoretical design studio focusing on disaster mitigation and resilient building practices. In leadership roles within AIA New York State, including State Disaster Coordinator and President in 2021, Azaroff has significantly influenced architectural responses to disaster and risk. In addition, Azaroff contributes to various organizations, including the Building Energy Exchange and the Oceanic Global Foundation, and held previous roles such as Certified Trainer with the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center. Azaroff's educational background includes a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute, as well as degrees in Geography and Architecture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
