Kate Shurtleff

Deputy State Public Defender at Colorado State Public Defender

Kate Shurtleff is a Deputy State Public Defender at the Colorado State Public Defender, currently practicing as a certified legal intern while awaiting July bar exam results. Prior to this role, Kate worked as a Researcher at Jury-X, LLC, where responsibilities included analyzing juror data and advising on jury selection strategies. Other significant experiences include legal internships at the Southern Center for Human Rights and Indigent Defense Services, as well as providing legal information at the Compass Center for Women and Families. Kate also facilitated outreach efforts for the Equal Rights Amendment during an internship at ERA-NC Alliance and conducted legal research at Kirkman, Whitford, Brady, Berryman, & Gordon, P.A. Academically, Kate holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of North Carolina School of Law and dual bachelor's degrees in Communication Studies and Women's and Gender Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
