Alex Stokes has a diverse professional background, beginning with a role as an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in 2007. In 2011, they became an Assistant Professor of Biology and Clinical Assistant Professor at Chaminade University of Honolulu. In 2013, they were appointed Managing Director at Makai Biotechnology, where they developed novel therapies for the treatment of heart failure. In 2014, they co-founded Two Fox Concepts and in 2015, they founded Rugby Hawaii. In 2016, they founded OHUKU AI, a development-stage company creating biologically-inspired and artificial intelligence assisted software solutions. In 2018, they co-founded Practical Biotechnology and in 2019, they became a Fellow at the Royal Society of Biology and the Fellows Coordinator at the Hawaii Data Science Institute.
Alex Stokes completed their education history with a Ph.D. from the University of Warwick in Biological Sciences from 2002 to 2005. Prior to that, they earned an HBO (~B.Eng; Hoger Beroepsonderwijs) from Avans University of Applied Sciences in Bioengineering from 1995 to 1996. Alex also obtained a M.Sc. from De Montfort University in International Biotechnology from 1995 to 1996. Alex'sfirst degree was a B.Sc.(Hons) from the University of Warwick in Microbiology & Microbial Technology from 1992 to 1995. Alex Stokes began their education at Oakwood Park in 1986 and finished in 1992.
