Dr. Sven Kevin Flegel

Dr. Sven Kevin Flegel has a diverse work experience in the aerospace industry. Dr. Sven Kevin is currently working as a Product Manager & SST Expert at OKAPI:Orbits GmbH, a German SaaS startup focused on making space travel more sustainable through Collision Avoidance Software for satellites. Prior to this, they were self-employed as a Freelance Aerospace Engineer. Dr. Sven Kevin also worked as a Space Debris Engineer at IMS Space Consultancy GmbH from 2020 to 2021.

Dr. Flegel has significant research experience, including working as a Freelancing Aerospace Engineer & Research Fellow at the Space Environment Research Centre (SERC) from 2016 to 2020. Dr. Sven Kevin'sresearch involved developing and implementing methods for conjunction assessment using Monte-Carlo Simulations. Dr. Sven Kevin also served as a Research Fellow at SERC from 2016 to 2019.

Before joining SERC, Dr. Flegel worked as a Project Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques FHR from 2014 to 2016. Dr. Sven Kevin started their career as a Project Scientist at the Institute of Aerospace Systems, Technische Universität Braunschweig, where they worked from 2008 to 2013. In this role, they managed various projects related to space debris mitigation measures and performed general research activities.

Dr. Flegel has published several papers and presented at international conferences on topics related to space debris and orbital calculations. Dr. Sven Kevin also has experience in teaching and supervision of student research theses. Additionally, they have administrative experience, including being an auditor of certified quality management according to ISO 9001 and organizing internal and external audits.

Dr. Sven Kevin Flegel completed their education at the Technische Universität Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig in Germany. From 2001 to 2008, they obtained a Diplom Ingenieur degree in Aerospace Engineering/Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently, from 2009 to 2013, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Space Debris Modeling at the same institution.
