Barmak Mostofian has extensive work experience in the scientific and research field. Following their undergraduate studies, they worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at The University of Manchester, where they developed code for pKa prediction and applied text-data mining methods for knowledge extraction. Barmak then joined the DKFZ German Cancer Research Center as an Undergraduate Researcher, before moving to the University of Toronto for further research work.
After completing their undergraduate studies, Barmak joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Graduate Research Assistant. In this role, they performed molecular simulations of plant cell walls and contributed to the design of solvents for biofuel production. Barmak also mentored undergraduate and graduate students, and conducted lectures and workshops on molecular biophysics and computational biology.
Barmak then continued their research career at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Barmak applied simulations to assess the effect of additives and lipid phase separation on biomembrane structures and discovered transient raft-like phenomena in microbial cell membranes.
Following their time at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Barmak joined Oregon Health and Science University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Barmak'swork focused on developing tools for automated identification of flexible oligomeric assemblies in electron micrographs and investigating critical cellular processes using innovative path-sampling methods.
Most recently, Barmak held the position of Senior Investigator at Roivant Sciences. Here, they contributed to the development and application of multiple simulation methods for drug discovery, resulting in the design of molecules that degrade cancer targets. Barmak also supported drug design projects with enhanced sampling methods to assess binding affinity and binding kinetics of compounds.
Currently, Barmak is working as the Lead Scientific Developer at OpenEye, Cadence Molecular Sciences, where they apply their expertise in scientific development.
Barmak Mostofian's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from Heidelberg University, a Master of Science (MSc) degree from Heidelberg University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The field of study for each degree is not specified.
