Ty Harris

Ty Harris has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and industries. Ty started their career as a Research Assistant at The Brookings Institution from 1996 to 1998. Ty then worked as a Lecturer in Statistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2002 and as a Lecturer in Economics at Northeastern University from 2003 to 2004.

Ty then transitioned into the insurance industry, joining Liberty Mutual Insurance in 2005. Ty held various positions during their tenure, including Research Analyst/Manager from 2005 to 2009, Vice President, Auto Product Manager from 2009 to 2012, Senior Product Manager from 2012 to 2014, and EVP, Chief Product Officer, Global Consumer Markets from 2014 to 2017. The latter role involved leading an organization of over 800 people and overseeing multiple aspects of the business, including pricing, product development, underwriting, and compliance.

In addition to their work at Liberty Mutual, Ty co-founded Quote Hopper in 2017, a small insurance shopping and lead generation service. Ty later handed off the business to an agency to operate. Currently, Ty is the CEO and Co-Founder of Openly Inc., a position they have held since August 2017.

Ty Harris received an A.B. degree in Economics from Duke University, where they studied from 1992 to 1996. Ty then pursued further education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in Economics. From 1998 to 2004, Ty Harris conducted extensive research in their field of study at MIT, resulting in the attainment of the ABD (all but dissertation) status. Additionally, Ty Harris obtained the certification of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) from the Casualty Actuarial Society in November 2007.
