Principal Software Architect at OpenX

Brian Schmidt started their career as a Summer Intern at Broadcom Corporation in 2005, where they worked on developing embedded programming interfaces for a System-on-Chip Set-top box solution. Brian then interned at Avago Technologies in 2006, where they designed and developed a testing platform for image stabilization technology. In 2007, they worked as an Intern at WebLayers, where they performed reviews of customer requirements and implemented usage rules for an automated library.

In 2008, Brian joined Blinkx as a Technical Specialist, where they designed and completed the development cycle for the QuoteFu application for Facebook. Brian also expanded their skill set to include LAMP, Javascript, CSS, and Flash technologies.

In 2011, they worked as a Software Engineer at Lat22, contributing to the development of a multi-platform mobile application and creating a back-end social networking platform. Later that year, they joined LiftDNA as an Optimization Engineer, where they co-invented the industry's first header-bidding solution and designed an adserver platform to optimize ad selection and increase revenue for publishers.

In 2012, Brian's company, LiftDNA, was acquired by OpenX, and they continued working there. Brian served as a Senior Software Engineer, where they led the redesign of the header-bidding, scaling the platform to hundreds of publishers worldwide. Brian also designed and developed "chain-serving," an efficient client-side waterfall of remnant demand with automated pricing. In 2015, they became a Staff Software Engineer at OpenX, where they designed, implemented, and scaled OpenX's first supply-side OpenRTB platform.

Since 2017, Brian has been working as a Principal Software Architect at OpenX, leading the architecture of OpenAudience, a people-based marketing product for the open web. Brian has a 100% cloud-native implementation on GCP utilizing BigQuery, Dataproc, and Kubernetes. Brian has also led the development process, working with product and business teams to scope and ideate solutions.

Brian Schmidt received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2007. Brian then pursued a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in the same field at MIT from 2007 to 2008.
