Arjan Vermeulen has a diverse work experience in the field of biosciences. They started their career in 2003 at Wageningen University, where they conducted a thesis project on the properties of chlorite dismutase and its producing bacterium. They also studied the survival and infectious ability of human pathogens in soil and lettuce plants.
In 2007, Arjan Vermeulen joined Indiana University Bloomington as a PhD student, focusing on light-perception and its physiological role in bacteria. They conducted research on various species and published their findings.
After completing their PhD, Arjan Vermeulen worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2015 to 2018.
In 2019, they joined Conagen as a Scientist, specializing in strain development. They later advanced to the role of Senior Scientist I.
Arjan Vermeulen continued their career at GreenLight Biosciences, Inc. in 2021 as a Scientist 2. They worked on various projects until their departure in 2023.
Currently, Arjan Vermeulen is employed at Orbital Therapeutics as a Scientist 2. The duration of their current role is ongoing.
Arjan Vermeulen completed their education in a chronological manner. From 1999 to 2006, they attended Wageningen University & Research, where they obtained a degree in Microbiology (ir.). Following this, they pursued further education at Indiana University Bloomington, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry, completing their studies between 2007 and 2015. It is also noteworthy that Arjan Vermeulen obtained a certification in "Experimentation for Improvement" from Coursera in April 2020.
