Alexander Brand

Alexander Brand has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and companies. Alexander currently works as a Principal Software Architect at Nuvalence, starting in February 2021. Prior to that, they were an Author at O'Reilly Media, starting in May 2020.

From 2018 to 2021, Alexander worked at VMware as a Senior Cloud Native Architect and later as a Cloud Native Architect. In these roles, they worked directly with Fortune 500 organizations, helping them design, build, and deploy Kubernetes-based platforms. Alexander also played a key role in establishing the Cloud Native Readiness program within VMware Tanzu Labs.

Before joining VMware, Alexander worked at Heptio in 2018 as a Systems Software Engineer, where they contributed to the Gimbal open source project, a software load balancer for routing traffic to multiple upstream Kubernetes and OpenStack clusters.

From 2014 to 2018, Alexander worked at Apprenda in various roles. Alexander started as a Junior Software Systems Analyst and later became a Software Systems Analyst and a Senior Software Systems Analyst. Alexander was a founding member of the Kismatic Enterprise Toolkit (KET) team, and they also assisted the Client Services team with Kubernetes client engagements.

In 2012, Alexander co-founded and served as the Engineering Lead at MeContaron.com, an online community where people can share reviews of local businesses in Caracas. Alexander also co-founded and served as the Lead Developer at Trabam.com, a platform that helps students find housing near their university.

Alexander gained early experience as a Software Engineering Intern at Apprenda Inc. in 2013, where they designed and implemented core features of the company's Enterprise Platform as a Service. Alexander also worked as a Web Developer at COMPSA, Queen's University, in 2012 and as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at Queen's University in the same year.

Overall, Alexander Brand has extensive experience in software architecture, cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, and open source projects, with a focus on designing and deploying scalable application platforms.

Alexander Brand has a strong educational background in computer science. Alexander attended Seneca College from 2008 to 2010, where they pursued a degree in Computer Networking and Technical Support. From 2010 to 2014, they attended Queen's University and completed a degree in Biomedical Computing, with a focus on computer science. Alexander further enhanced their knowledge in the field by obtaining a Master's degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they studied from 2016 to 2021.

In addition to their academic pursuits, Alexander has also obtained certifications in Kubernetes application development and administration. Alexander became a Certified Kubernetes Administrator in October 2018 and a Certified Kubernetes Application Developer in February 2020. These certifications demonstrate their expertise and specialization in cloud-native computing.
