Carmel Brown has over 35 years of work experience, primarily in HR roles. Carmel currently serves as the National Director of HR and Operations at Ormiston Academies Trust. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of People and Projects at the same organization. Before joining Ormiston Academies Trust, Carmel worked at the Department of Education as the Deputy Director Supporting Delivery Division, where they managed an HRBP team and a Learning and Talent team. Carmel also served as the HR Director at the National College for School Leadership from 2008 to 2012. Before that, they held the same position at Thornton's from 2001 to 2008. Carmel began their HR career at Allied Domecq, where they worked as both an HR Director and HR Executive from 1994 to 2000. Prior to that, they held the role of HR Manager at Lyons Tetley from 1985 to 1994.
Carmel Brown FCIPD attended Lochaber High School, Fort William from 1974 to 1980, where they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. Carmel then went on to Edinburgh University from 1980 to 1983, earning a BSc in Psychology. Lastly, from 1983 to 1984, Carmel attended Edinburgh Napier University's Institute of People Management, obtaining an IPM degree.
