Sarai Pacheco Piñol has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and genomics. Sarai currently serves as the Cell Biology Platform Leader at Oryzon Genomics SA since June 2021. Prior to this, they worked at GSK as a Senior Scientist in Cell imaging and dynamics - Bioimaging UK from May 2020 to May 2021.
From 2016 to 2020, Sarai worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences, where they focused on studying molecular pathways controlling the progression of the meiotic cell cycle. During this time, they gained skills in CRISPR gene editing, phosphoproteomics, gene sequencing, microscopy, and RNA interference.
In 2015, they worked as a Research Scientist at the Comparative and Functional Genomics group at IBB UAB, where they studied polymorphic human inversions using ddPCR and optimized genetic and molecular methods.
Sarai's earlier experiences include being a PhD Student and Assistant Professor at the Genome Integrity and Instability Group at UAB - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2011 to 2015. Sarai also worked as a Master Thesis Student at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2009 to 2010, studying meiotic recombination patterns in primates. As an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the same university in 2009, they focused on understanding the immune response triggered by mycobacterial lipid antigens.
Throughout their career, Sarai has acquired skills in various techniques including mass spectrometry, CRISPR gene editing, gene sequencing, microscopy, genetic and molecular characterization methods, serology techniques, and immunosorbent assays.
Sarai Pacheco Piñol has a strong education background in the field of Biology, with a focus on Cell Biology and Reproductive Biology. Sarai completed their Bachelor's degree in Biology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2004 to 2009. During this time, in the academic year 2007-2008, they also studied at the Università degli studi Roma TRE for their third year of the bachelor's degree.
After their bachelor's degree, Sarai pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Cell Biology, specialized in Reproductive Biology, at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2009 to 2010. Sarai further continued their education at the same institution and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cell Biology with a Special Award for Doctoral Studies from 2011 to 2015.
In terms of additional certifications, Sarai holds a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate obtained from the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) in October 2020. Sarai also obtained the certification of being a research staff user of laboratory animals for experimentation and other scientific purposes from the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science (FELASA) in February 2011.
