Michael Ornelas, MBA, CG(ASCP)CM has extensive work experience in the field of cytogenetics and molecular genetics. Michael has held various roles in different companies, including OGT, Empire Genomics, LabCorp/Genzyme Genetics, AmeriPath, Impath Inc./Genzyme Genetics, Laboratory of Karen Medville, and ASU West.
At OGT, Michael currently serves as the Director of Support and Services, North America, where they are responsible for developing and implementing support processes and standards for NGS, Microarray, and FISH product lines. Michael also focuses on team building, professional development, and cross-functional collaboration with various departments.
Prior to this, Michael worked as the Field Application Scientist (FAS) Manager at OGT, where they built and managed a team of Field Application Scientists supporting NGS, Microarray, and FISH product lines. Michael was also involved in supporting CytoCell North American specific commercial activity and product development.
Before joining OGT, Michael served as a Field Application Scientist at OGT, where they worked with North American CytoCell customers to provide technical support and high levels of customer service. Michael also supported the North American commercial team and fulfilled the overall CytoCell business needs.
Michael's earlier work experience includes roles such as Laboratory Supervisor/Quality Manager at Empire Genomics, Laboratory Supervisor/Cytogenetic Team Leader at LabCorp/Genzyme Genetics, and Cytogenetic Technologist at AmeriPath and Impath Inc./Genzyme Genetics. In these positions, they gained expertise in various aspects of cytogenetic and FISH analysis, laboratory management, quality management, and training.
Before starting their professional career, Michael completed a laboratory internship at the Laboratory of Karen Medville, where they received training in electron microscopy techniques. Michael also worked as a Teaching Assistant at ASU West, where they collaborated in the development and execution of experiments and provided assistance to students.

In addition to their educational background, Michael has earned the CG(ASCP) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Michael also has certifications as a Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist from the State of California - Department of Health and as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist from the New York State Department of Health.
