Seth Barribeau

Principal Data Scientist at Ozette Technologies

Seth Barribeau (PhD) has held a variety of roles in the scientific field since 2008. Seth began their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory University, where they co-led a large international genome consortium group to analyze the immune system of the pea aphid, a crop pest. Seth then moved to ETH Zurich in 2010, where they acted as an Assistant/Dozent and led a large international genome consortium group to analyze the immune system of bumblebees. In 2013, they were a Fellow of the College for Life Sciences at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Institute for Advanced Study Berlin). In 2015, they became an Assistant Professor: Ecology & Evolution of Infectious Disease at East Carolina University, where they developed a wet-dry lab with diverse undergraduate and graduate students from Eastern North Carolina. In 2016, they moved to the University of Liverpool, where they held the roles of Honorary Lecturer: Ecological Immunology and Lecturer: Ecological Immunology (Tenured Assistant Prof equivalent). During this time, they established a dynamic lab with seed money from departmental, governmental, and philanthropic grants, and identified and established new partnerships with academic and industry colleagues. Seth also mentored two PhD students, two master's students, and nine undergraduate researchers. In 2022, they took on the role of Principal Data Scientist at Ozette Technologies.

Seth Barribeau holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Zoology & Psychology from the University of Canterbury, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Zoology from the same institution. Seth also holds certifications from LinkedIn, EMBO, Codecademy, Higher Education Academy, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), Leipzig University, and SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. These certifications include Strategic Thinking (2022), Laboratory Leadership (2021), Analyze Data with Python Skill Path (2020), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2019), Promises of Big Data Across Disciplines (2013), Programming for Evolutionary Biology (2012), and Analysis of Differential Gene Expression (2011).
