Tom Rickey

Tom Rickey is a seasoned science communicator with extensive experience spanning over three decades. Currently serving as a Senior Science Writer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory since January 2013, Tom implements a consistent role in disseminating diverse research topics, including the gut-brain microbiome, nuclear detection technologies, and climate studies. Previous positions at PNNL include Team Lead for Science Writing, Senior Advisor for News and Media Relations, and Science and Research Communications Group Manager, where Tom led a team in relaying important scientific advancements across various fields. Earlier in their career at the University of Rochester Medical Center and University of Rochester, Tom held several roles including Associate Director for Research Communications, where Tom enhanced national media coverage of medical research and supervised a team of writers. Tom holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from St. Lawrence University and has participated in specialized science writing workshops.
