Ali Balkis

Ali Balkis has a work experience as a Software Engineer at Pallon since 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Master Thesis Student at Pallon from November 2019 to May 2020, where they conducted research on capturing uncertainties in probabilistic deep neural networks for object detection. Ali compared different methods and proposed new approaches for incorporating uncertainty information back into the network. Additionally, they studied the impact of output distribution quality on the reliability of deep neural networks. Before their thesis role, Ali worked as a Software Engineer at Pallon from June 2019 to October 2019, where they contributed to an automated inspection and maintenance system for urban drainage systems. Ali worked on all parts of the pipeline, incorporating computer vision techniques and machine learning for automation. Ali also played a key role in improving the reliability and interpretability of neural network architectures through research efforts.

Ali Balkis completed their education history in a chronological manner. Ali first attended Deutsche Schule Istanbul / Alman Lisesi from 2008 to 2013, where they obtained a High School Diploma with a field of study in Science and Mathematics. Ali then pursued their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at ETH Zürich from 2013 to 2018. Following their undergraduate studies, Ali Balkis went on to pursue a Master's degree in Computer Science at ETH Zürich, which they completed from 2017 to 2020.
