Ryan Lau has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Ryan began their career as an Associate Engineer at Computer Systems Engineering in 1998. From 2000 to 2006, Ryan worked as a Teacher at Kapolei Middle School, where they developed strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, and administrators. In 2006, they joined Tesoro Corporation as a Plant Operator in the Operations Department before transitioning to roles as a TOP Coordinator and Process Safety Management Coordinator in the Health & Safety Department. During their time at Tesoro Corporation, Ryan was nominated for The Tesoro Excellence Awards for their leadership achievements. In 2013, they joined Par Pacific Holdings, Inc. as a Process Safety Management Coordinator before assuming the role of Manager in the Health and Safety Department at Par Hawaii Refinery, LLC in December 2021. In addition to their professional work, Ryan Lau has also served as the Coach for the Varsity Boys Soccer team at Kapolei High School since 2000, achieving numerous accomplishments and accolades.

Ryan Lau has a diverse education history, with a focus on teaching and science. In 1995 to 1998, they completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology/Human Biology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Prior to that, from 1993 to 1994, they pursued Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies at San Diego State University. In 1992 to 1993, they also studied the same field at Saint Mary's College of California. Following their undergraduate studies, Ryan decided to pursue a career in education. From 2001 to 2003, they obtained a Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification in Secondary Education and Teaching with a specialization in Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

In addition to their formal education, Ryan has obtained several certifications that have further enhanced their skills and expertise. In 2005, they became a Certified Curriculum Specialist in Forensic Science through Chaminade University. Ryan also holds a Teaching License from the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board, which they obtained in March 2013. Ryan'spassion for sports led him to pursue certifications as an Accredited Interscholastic Coach in Soccer from the National Federation of State High School Associations in November 2013, and as a Double Goal Coach I - Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons from the Positive Coaching Alliance in June 2013. Furthermore, Ryan has sought professional development in the field of sports management, earning a NYU Fundamentals of Global Sports Management Certificate from Yellowbrick.co in December 2020. Ryan has also completed training in Environmental Management System (EMS) and Introduction to Process Safety Management (PSM) from OSHAcademy Safety and Health Training in March 2020. Lastly, they hold a Nike SPARQ Training Certification obtained in April 2008 from Nike.
