Laurie Penney McGee has a diverse work experience spanning several years. Laurie served as the Director of Self-Direction Services & Support Broker at Exceptional Family Resources since December 2018, where they developed policies and practices for staff and individuals served. As a Self-Direction Broker, Laurie worked with individuals with disabilities and their families to create service and budget plans that met their needs. Laurie also worked as a Self-Directed Services Manager and Broker at the same company from December 2014. Additionally, Laurie worked as a Zumba Instructor at Skaneateles YMCA starting from October 2018. Laurie also ran their own consulting firm, Laurie Penney McGee Consulting, which focused on recreation and human service services, disability awareness, and accessibility consultation. Laurie provided inclusion training and technical assistance to ensure the full inclusion of people of all abilities. Laurie began their consulting work in April 2014 and is still currently involved. Laurie has a background in education and served as an Adjunct Faculty at SUNY Cortland from August 1999. Laurie was the Executive Director of Booker T Washington Community Center from June 2012 to August 2013. Additionally, Laurie worked as a Project Coordinator at NYS Inclusive Recreation Resource Center from January 2007 to March 2012. Lastly, Laurie served as the Director of Recreation & Respite Services at Exceptional Family Resources from August 1999 to January 2007.
Laurie Penney McGee holds a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Studies, with a specialization in Therapeutic Recreation. Laurie obtained this degree from the State University of New York Cortland, where they studied from 1998 to 1999. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice and specialization in Law at Glassboro State College. Laurie attended Glassboro State College from 1987 to 1990. Additionally, Laurie has obtained several certifications throughout their career, including being a Zumba Instructor certified by Zumba Fitness in April 2015, a Certified Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator certified by the University of Missouri-School of Health Professions Disability Studies and Policy Center in July 2014, and a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification in February 2005.
