Laura Sofía Ortega Flores BSN, RN has a diverse work experience in the healthcare field. Laura Sofía started their career in 2016 as a Certified Medical Assistant at the University of Utah Health and worked there until 2018. In 2019, they participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) at the University of Utah, where they conducted research on contraceptive methods and published a research abstract.
In 2019, Laura also had a Nursing Capstone role at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, specifically in the Medical Oncology Inpatient Unit. Laura Sofía gained valuable experience in providing care to oncology patients during this time.
In 2020, Laura worked for the Utah Department of Health as a COVID-19 Spanish Contact Tracer and later as a COVID-19 Contact Tracing Lead. Laura Sofía'srole involved tracing and monitoring individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and providing necessary support and guidance.
In 2021, Laura joined the University of Utah College of Nursing as a PS Health Educator. Additionally, they became a member of the COVID-19 Citizen Science Study Patient Advisory Board at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). In their advisory board role, they actively participated in research discussions, provided feedback on study plans and materials, and contributed to the communication of study progress to the patient community.
Currently, Laura is working as an Inpatient Nurse II in the Bone Marrow Transplant & Hematology Inpatient Unit at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
