Doug Roberts

Doug Roberts, Ph. D. joins Frost Science with more than two decades of experience bringing together informal science education and academic research. One of the areas of intersection between science and education is that of scientific visualization. Dr. Roberts has lead visualization efforts for researchers at previous jobs at the University of Illinois and Northwestern University, as well as the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Most recently, he led the technology efforts at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, planning huge updates to its Omni theater.

Dr. Roberts grew up in Kansas and was always interested in astronomy and science. His passion for technology was given direction to support his astronomy research efforts on the radio, which he did at the University of Oklahoma and at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Socorro, New Mexico.

Although science education and public engagement takes up most of his time, Dr. Roberts is also engaged in active research using telescopes like the Very Large Array radio telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope to better understand the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Looking up at the stars still gives Dr. Roberts a thrill and the next best thing to going to space.
