Deandra Alvear has a diverse range of work experience. Deandra began their career as an Administrative Assistant at Pacific Workplaces in 2013 and held that role until 2017. In 2018, Deandra worked as a Museum Educator at Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley. Deandra then transitioned to San Francisco State University, where they held multiple roles. From 2017 to 2019, Deandra worked as a Research Assistant, focusing on water resource responses to climate. During this time, they conducted research and collected and preprocessed various types of data. Additionally, from 2017 to 2018, they worked as a Teaching Assistant, leading Earth Science lab sections and assisting students in data wrangling and visualization. In 2019, Deandra joined SharpestMinds as a Data Science Fellow. In this role, they developed a music recommender system and scripted data collection pipelines using Python. Deandra also extracted audio features from raw audio files using the Python package LibROSA. Most recently, Deandra joined Pattern Ag in 2021 as a Data Analyst, and then was promoted to the role of Data Scientist in 2023.
Deandra Alvear pursued their education in the field of earth sciences, focusing on hydrogeology and geology. Deandra obtained a Master of Science degree in Hydrogeology from San Francisco State University, attending from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Geology at California State University, Bakersfield, from 2013 to 2017.
In addition to their formal education, Deandra Alvear has also pursued certifications in the field of data science. In 2019, they obtained a certification as a Data Scientist in Python from Dataquest.io. Earlier that year, they achieved certification as an Applied Data Science Specialist through Coursera.
