Randol Read brings a unique combination of legal acumen, technical expertise and real-world business experience to his intellectual property practice. With a special emphasis on wireless communications (including wireless standards), wireless sensors (industrial, downhole, and medical devices), fiber-optic sensors, processor architecture, database design (with emphasis on medical and healthcare applications), and semiconductor processing, his practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property law. From securing patents for a global energy leader and one of the world’s leading wireless technology providers to evaluating IP portfolios, Randol provides strategic counsel and advice to Fortune 500 clients on a wide variety of IP issues.
With degrees in electrical engineering and nearly a decade of engineering experience – including serving as a director of R&D in the oil and gas industry – Randol understands not only his clients’ technical needs, but also their bottom-line business objectives. His knowledge of communication protocols, low-level processor design and other technical areas allows him to analyze patents, honing in on the subtle details and novel aspects to determine whether a potential product would either be covered by — or infringe upon — a particular patent.
Randol prides himself on finding the most efficient way to solve his clients’ business challenges and achieve their IP goals. He goes beyond mere patent evaluation and analysis, providing specific recommendations that enable his clients to develop and protect their IP portfolios.
Outside of work, Randol enjoys spending time with his sons, including coaching their youth sports teams.
